Frequently asked questions

01Does a heat pump work in an existing home with ordinary radiators?

Yes, thanks to the latest generation of R290 heat pumps.

Heat pumps used to deliver only low water temperatures (35–45°C), so underfloor heating was needed. With the eco-friendly R290 (propane) refrigerant, the system reaches flow temperatures of up to 70°C, even in freezing weather. Your radiators usually don't need replacing, and there is no need to break up floors for underfloor heating.

02Can an air conditioner also heat my home efficiently?

Absolutely. Technically, a modern air conditioner is an air-to-air heat pump. In summer it takes heat out of your home; in the colder months the process reverses and it extracts heat from the outside air. Especially in spring and autumn, it heats a living space much faster and more cheaply than a central boiler. With solar panels, you heat and cool almost for free during the day.

03Why a heat pump water heater instead of an ordinary electric one?

An electric water heater heats water with an immersion element and is often the biggest electricity user in the house. A heat pump water heater gets up to 75% of its energy from the surrounding air and uses only 25% electricity. You save up to three quarters of your hot water energy costs, and thanks to the grants the payback period is short.

04Can I still have my oil or gas boiler repaired or replaced?

Yes. Existing boilers can still be serviced and repaired.

  • Servicing: mandatory every two years for gas and every year for oil. As a certified technician (Cedicol / GI), Yzebaert Technics issues the statutory cleaning and combustion certificate after every service.
  • Replacement: a new gas condensing boiler is still possible in many situations. Strict Flemish rules apply to oil (no replacement if there is a natural gas main in the street). We assess on site which solution is best, both legally and financially.
05Why is a water softener important with a new heat pump or water heater?

In Halle and the Pajottenland, tap water is hard to very hard. Limescale forms an insulating layer on heating elements and in heat exchangers: 1 mm of scale already causes about 10% efficiency loss. A water softener protects your heat pump, water heater, taps and appliances, keeps efficiency high and prevents premature wear.

06Am I eligible for grants for a heat pump or heat pump water heater?

Yes, if the installation is carried out by a certified professional. For the Flemish Mijn VerbouwPremie grant, the installer must be RESCert-certified. Cédric Yzebaert holds this certification. After installation you receive all the certificates and technical data sheets to apply for your grant easily.
